Big News

Hello there. Tim here.

Today's issue is going to be a bit different.

You're not receiving my standard newsletter. Instead, I am making an announcement and telling you about a new chapter in my life.

Don't worry, the newsletter format isn't going anywhere, but this is a special day and I am hoping you will allow me to speak freely with you.

Here we go...

I Now Own 100% Of Copyblogger Media

Crazy, isn't it?

You may have noticed over the last month of my newsletter, that the subject matter changed a bit. I veered slightly off course and had been writing a lot about my personal fears, insecurities, and doubts I was having in business.

For long time readers, you know that the purpose of my newsletter is to "teach you how to create multiple streams of income", so why the sudden change?

The truth is, my mind has been running a million miles a minute, and every time I sat down to write my newsletter, I haven't been able to focus on anything other than this Copyblogger deal.

It's scary and exciting and a dream come true.

So what's next?

Step One Is To Nail Down The Target Audience

One of the aspects that has been causing me the most anguish is rethinking who Copyblogger is for.

It sounds self explanatory, because Copyblogger has always been for "content creators who want to start an online business."

Right?

But in my heart, I've known that's a bad angle, because it's not specific enough. Every Twitter bro in the universe is creating courses to teach people how to start an online business. But that's not me.

I was sitting on my front porch a few weeks ago, looking at the mountains, and the answer simply popped into my head.

Some voice spoke to me and said ...

"Copyblogger is for me, 12 years ago."

Copyblogger taught me how to create content to help me close high paying clients for my SEO agency. After painstakingly writing a new sales page, asking people their thoughts, and talking to my wife, I landed on a more focused direction.

Yesterday, I published the new sales page for Copyblogger Academy. Check out out.

Everything I know, I learned from reading Copyblogger. So now it is my responsibility to pass this knowledge along to those who came after me.

Second, Rebuilding the SEO

Over the last 2 years, I have been methodically rewriting important articles on Copyblogger. I've been focusing on articles that would drive intent driven content. Because the domain authority for Copyblogger is so high, many of these rewrites have jumped up in traffic.

However, the site traffic as a whole has gone down.

Why? Because I've deleted a lot of the pages that were generating useless traffic.

This is a good first step, but it's not something I should be happy about. There are THOUSANDS of keyword opportunities that I am not taking advantage of.

My goal is to be generating 250,000 hits a month of targeted traffic.

I will do this by systematically updating important content, writing new articles for my target audience, deleting and redirecting old pages, fixing some of the site health issues, and redesigning the homepage for better site structure.

This is a long term process and will require focus and patience, but I'm ready for it.

Lastly, I Need to Build a Better Sales System

The lifeblood of any business is sales. I have so much room for improvement in my sales process.

  • I am building an outreach team, so that I can partner with software companies, creators, and other media companies to sell sponsorships and promotions in my newsletters.
  • I am building a better automation process so I can sell more memberships to The Copyblogger Academy.
  • I am building a more focused and targeted lead generation system for Digital Commerce Partners.

Internally, the business is optimized. It's taken me years to get the internal working of the business to the point where I know I can scale. The systems are tight, the margins are high, and the plan is perfect.

Now, I need to pour gasoline on the fire.

There's So Much More I Want To Say

I have big goals, big dreams, big ideas, and am chasing big profits. I also have a HUGE hill to climb. There is so much work to do and it feels like every 30 seconds, a new idea flies into my head. Most of the next 6 months is going to be a daily battle of telling myself no, and reminding myself to focus on "the next thing in front of me."

My Twitter friend Jason reminded me of the age old proverb. I told him about how overwhelming it felt and he said ...

One bite at a time.

So here we are. I'm doing this. It's too late to backout now and even so, I'm not the kind of person to back away from a challenge.

This is a golden opportunity for me, and I plan to take full advantage.

I need to execute. That's it.

Thanks for letting me vent. Thanks for reading and thanks for supporting my newsletter.

Love you guys. Talk to you next week.

Tim
