The $100,000 Newsletter Framework

Published over 1 year ago • 5 min read

Hello. Tim here.

Personally, I think Elon live tweeting about his disastrous week at Twitter is hysterical. I still don't know why people look for reasons to be upset about everything. Is there anything more hysterical than tweeting about your departure from Twitter?

This week's issue is brought to you by Growth Bar SEO.

1. The $100,000 Newsletter Framework

I'm convinced that a sponsorship based newsletter is the fastest, easiest, and most scalable option to fast track your way to $100,000 a year. This is the framework. It's so simple.

Step 1 - Pick your topic

This sounds trite, but it's necessary for you to commit.

The reason advertisers like to sponsor newsletters is because they know the subscribers belong to a tribe. Your topic can be about anything, but it needs to be about something

  • lawn care
  • cooking
  • flowers
  • muay thai

What's important is that you pick the topic and stick with it.

Step 2 - Push as much attention to your landing page as possible

Tweet. Publish on Instagram. Write blogs. Publish videos.

In just 2 hours each day, you can make enough content to get exposure on many different platforms. The key is to make sure you are pushing that attention to your landing page to generate email subscribers.

Step 3 - Use DMs to sell sponsorships

This is the step you will probably skip, and then you will get frustrated and convince yourself it doesn't work.

You have to get after it. You have to actively PROMOTE your product and chase the sales.

Almost all of my sponsorships happen through the DMs. Here's a screen shot of a cold DM I sent last month where I closed 2 ad slots in 5 minutes.

Case Study

Currently, the TimStodz.com newsletter (the one you're reading now) is generating $3000 a month. I have just under 7000 subscribers. And my personal newsletter (with only 1200 subscribers), is making $2000 a month.

This is so simple. Don't think about it too hard. Just. Get. After. It!

2. The Email Expert Who Sells a Paper Newsletter for $149 a Month

On this week’s episode, Ethan Brooks talks to email marketing expert, Chris Orzechowski, the founder of Orzy Media and The Email Copywriter. They talk about copywriting, voice, famous ad writers, and paid newsletters (including a guy who used direct mail to drive $47k+ in business off of 800 fliers).

Some of my regrets include ...

  • selling Bitcoin in 2017
  • saying no to Jocelyn P. in 6th grade when she asked me to couple skate with her in front of my friends
  • not taking LinkedIn serious 10 years ago

LinkedIn has been a great platform for me. I admit, it's a bit cringy and fake, but the people are much nicer on LinkedIn than they are on Twitter.

Anyway, enjoy this thread that Nathan wrote. It's definitely worth the read.

4. GrowthBar’s Not Paying Me for this Ad

I’m kidding, of course they are. Thanks to GrowthBar for sponsoring! But truth be told, I only promote tools I know and trust (and use myself). Do you see me peddling every software tool under the sun like other “experts?”

GrowthBar’s the real deal. It enables you to research, write, and optimize blog content 10x faster (with the power of AI).

Use my code “thefck” for 50% off a yearly subscription.

5. Don't Grow a Social Media Business, Use Social Media to Grow Your Business

There's a huge difference between the two.

Please don't make this mistake.

6. Invest in The Texas Triangle

I'm going to take a step outside of my comfort zone and talk about manufacturing.

I truly believe that the Texas Triangle is about to become a world leader in manufacturing, especially electronics manufacturing.

Here's the deal.

China's labor costs have increased. In addition, The United States is no longer willing to patrol the shipping routes in The South China sea. The U.S. is becoming more isolationist, because the American people are tired of being the world police.

That means we need to make our own stuff.

The only way that's possible is if the U.S. outsources labor to Mexico.

It's already happening.

If you're interested in getting filthy rich through the US manufacturing boom, now is the time to start.

This week's useless, irrelevant, and beautiful tweet is dedicated to the GOAT.

Thanks Larry. Can't wait you hear you complain about this.

10. Final Thought - "Overcoming Fear in Entrepreneurship."

This is a story about fear, more specifically, the fear I have been feeling that has kept me from truly becoming the best and most successful version of myself.
Here goes ...
About Sober Nation
Sober Nation is my first real brand. These days, it's easy to look at Sober Nation as a success. What most people don't realize is that Sober Nation was a colossal failure for most of it's existence.
Everything I learned about business and SEO, I learned through constant failure on Sober Nation.
It was about 4 years ago that David and I finally hit a stride and started making real money. 7 years of failure turned into 4 years of cash money. It wasn't easy.
Currently, the site does about $20,000 a month in revenue. It was one part time employee. This means that I make about $12,000 a month from the site for doing almost nothing. It's great.
So What's the Problem?
The problem is that the site can be better, much better. David and I have been working since February on a new version of the website. By all accounts this site has better site structure, better conversion optimization, better content, and better
messaging. The new should *should* double our revenue.
But, there is also a possibility that the new site will fail. It could completely flop and we could plummet our search rankings and destroy our perfectly good, cash flowing, profitable businesses. Because of this, I have been kicking the can down the road for months. But that ends today.
Overcoming Fear
David and I spoke. He said "we're either going to do the thing, or we're not." It made me feel ashamed. When have I ever been the person who hid behind fear?

Of course we're going to do the thing. That's what life is all about!

So we're doing it. We're going live.

Worst case scenario is that we lose about half our revenue and then slowly build it back up knowing that we are building a better product that helps more people.

I know it's the right thing to do, and I am excited for a new adventure.

This week, I challenge you to identify something you're not doing because of the fear you feel.

Love you guys. Talk to you next week.

Tim
