1. This Is the Business You Should Start

Commonly, young people see the world of "internet money" and jump in. This means they start creating content about social media, new products, SaaS, coaching, consulting, or any number of subsets in the entrepreneurship world.

Me? I stumbled into sobriety.

I got sober on March 4, 2010 ...

and since then I have been obsessed with the online communities in the space.

I started Sober Nation as a way to tell my own story, and soon it was this business that gave me the framework for everything I know.

The opportunity that no one notices.

There are so many emerging opportunities in healthcare, it will make your head spin. Off the top of my head, here are some emerging industries ...

  • stem cells
  • mental health
  • treatment resistant depression medications (basically mushrooms and ketamine)
  • vitamin D research
  • CRISPR

It's staggering. The advances we are making in healthcare makes me think that we aren't far from being able to reverse aging.

Here's what you should do.

Pick a healthcare topic. My recommendation would be to pick a new emerging science, something like stem cell therapy. Then create a blog and simply write in your blog every day.

You don't have to worry about SEO. You don't have to worry about "building an audience." Simply get involved. Research other scientists, writers, and marketers in the space. Contact them via email or Twitter and book phone calls for the simple reason to learn with no agenda.

Do this for a year, and I promise, you will find yourself as a respected authority in a new emerging space. From then, you can monetize in any number of ways. You could sell leads, you could create a directory, you could publish white papers, you could host events.

YOU. CAN. DO. ANYTHING. YOU. WANT.

2. Hard Work, Hustle Culture, Past Advice, and the Future of the Pod

4. I Deleted Slack

Economists have long wondered and pondered about the effectiveness of technology. The common consensus is that technology will make us more productive, but it doesn't. We have plateaued in our productiveness for some time.

Why is that?

My personal view is that there is a reverse correlation between technology and focus. Technology makes it easier than ever to be distracted and communicate poorly.

In this video, I give a personal account as to why I decided to delete slack.

The truth is, I got into an argument with my team and the argument was over slack. It was so stupid, because the entire situation would have been solved within seconds if we simply spoke on the phone together.

I'm excited to see how this retreat back to analog will effect my mental capacity, my emotional well being, and my productivity.

5. Final Thought - "Fear and Money."

I need to get personal this week. I don't know exactly how to say this, so I am going to write and see what comes out.

As you know, we moved to Denver last month. Our new home is amazing and we are right next to the mountains. I am living in a dream world. We go for walks around the lake and we marvel at the mountain range. It's so close I feel like I could put it in my pocket.

Moving is expensive. I'm not even going to tell you how much it cost us to move our house, set up our rental, buy new furniture, and buy all the other random shit you need to live. It's been a lot.

I work because I love business. I LOVE making money. I love the game. In truth, the money itself has never been that appealing to me. I don't splurge on jewelry and I never buy anything nice for myself. The money makes me feel safe and like I'm winning.

Or so I thought ...

This last month has created an intense sense of fear and anxiety in my life. It's not rational fear, it's completely illogical fear.

Even after buying all this new stuff, my family is better off financially than 99.98% of the people who have ever existed throughout the history of the world. That statistic alone should be more than enough to calm the anxiety, but it doesn't.

All I see is the uncertainty of the future and it's time I start reconciling this.

You need to know that although I am good at business, I have the same fears and concerns as the rest of you. I am a work in progress.
